Ministries of Abbey

Ministry for Cymraeg

The Criw Cymraeg’s role is to promote Welsh culture and Cymraeg across the school.

This includes running events such as the school Eisteddfod and choosing a ‘Siaradwr yr Wythnos’. We are currently an ‘Arian’ Siarter Iaith school and working towards the ‘Aur’ award.

Mrs Ryan and Mrs Jones work closely with the Criw Cymraeg, supported by Miss Ashton.

Ministry for Eco, Rights and Ethics

The Eco, Rights & Ethics ministry’s role is to promote pupil voice, children’s rights, and sustainability across our school. We have achieved the silver rights aware award for Rights Respecting schools.

This includes working towards UNCRC Gold award by strengthening our whole school commitment to rights of the child. We also hold our Platinum Eco award; we encourage everyone to care for each other and the world around us.

Mrs Williams works closely with the Eco, Rights & Ethics ministry.

Ministry of Health and Wellbeing

The Health & Well-being Ministry helps make our school a happy, healthy and safe place for everyone. We encourage children to stay active, eat healthily and look after their wellbeing.

This includes listening to pupils’ ideas and helping to make decisions about things like the fruit shed and activities in school. We also help monitor REAL PE, raise money for a school minibus, and plan and organise events such as the Big Ramble.

Mrs Thomas works closely with Health & Well-being Ministry.

Ministry of Learning and Experiences

The Learning & Experiences ministry’s role is to ensure that learning and experiences are engaging, authentic and purposeful. Children in this ministry consider how they can improve learning across Abbey. We have developed the ‘50 Experiences’.

This includes developing how our teachers teach, our children learn and ensuring key skills like Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Competence are taught well. Recently, we have been on a visit to Neath Library and are working with teachers to develop a reading culture across school.

Mrs Griffiths and Mr Farley work closely with The Learning & Experiences Ministry.
